SCORE ECD

Nurturing Care for Early Childhood

SCORE ECD has been running since 2014, empowering women religious to provide quality early childhood development services. The program uses a Care Group Model for implementation, ensuring information cascades from the institutional level to the household, reaching greater numbers of families as the structure expands.

Currently implemented in 6 districts across the Eastern, Copperbelt, Southern and Luapula Provinces of Zambia, SCORE ECD IV focuses on caregivers of children 0-5 years with a clear goal: ensuring all children receive nurturing care by 2027.

Care Group Model

SCORE ECD uses the Care Group Model for implementation, a proven approach that ensures information cascades effectively from the institutional level down to individual households. This model enables the program to reach greater numbers of families in the community as the structure naturally expands at each level.

Through this approach, sisters and volunteers trained in early childhood development share their knowledge with lead mothers, who in turn support caregivers in their communities, creating a sustainable network of support for children’s nurturing care.

The Care group model has facilitated implementation of different activities or interventions that contributes to fostering of a nurturing environment for children aged 0 – 5. One such intervention is the Strengthening of Marriages and Relationships through Communication and Planning (SMART Couples). The video highlights the importance of this intervention in early childhood development from a few couples in Kalichero, Eastern Province of Zambia.
